Mary Elizabeth Rendon Martinez was born on May 16, 1950. If she were alive today, we would be celebrating her 60th birthday at the sock hop. During her illness, she developed a special bond with nurses and nursing. To honor her, a scholarship was established at the University of Houston-Victoria, School of Nursing and is designated for a Hispanic recipient with sensitivity in caring for patients like Mary.
