When the smoke cleared, the UHV Jaguars finished fourth in the NAIA Region VI Softball Tournament in the team’s first season with two wins and two losses.

The Jaguars defeated Northwood University 8-0 in the first game. The score included two homeruns by Stephanie “The Right Steph” Lavey, a homerun  and RBI single by Cirby “The Bullet” Ryan, and a two-run double by Amber “The Hammer” Scott.

In the next game, the Jaguars fell to defending national champions Oklahoma City University 6-0.

The Jaguars jumped back into the tournament with a 5-1 victory over the College of the Southwest.  Pitcher Kristen “The Cannon” Lindley gave up only four hits the entire game, and  drove in three runs thanks to a two-run double and a solo home run in the seventh.  Jessica “Speedy” Salas added an RBI to the score.  Also scoring were Amber “The Hammer” Scott and Kasey Voyles.

In the final game of the tournament, the Jags lost 1-0 to St. Gregory’s University despite a strong showing. Pitcher Lauren “Six Gun” Garza struck out eight and scattered six hits.

The Jaguars are anxiously awaiting news of a possible bid for the NAIA National Softball Tournament in Decatur, Alabama. Word is expected by Monday. The Jaguars overall record is now 32-18.
