The University of Houston-Victoria's inaugural soccer season will kick off with an intra-squad game on Aug. 14 and an exhibition game against Lon Morris College at home on Aug. 21.
The Jaguars will showcase their talents to Victoria soccer fans with a Red & White game as the women will take to the field at 1 p.m., with the men's team matched up in a 3 p.m. contest on Aug. 14. The two teams then host Lon Morris in an exhibition on Aug. 21 with the women action getting underway at 2 p.m. and the men at 4 p.m.
The Jaguar women open the regular season on Aug. 27 in Brownsville against third ranked William Cary at 6 p.m. William Cary is the defending Gulf Coast Athletic Conference champion and advanced to the NAIA National Tournament last year after finishing the season 20-2-1.
The men open regular season play on Sept. 2 in San Antonio against the St. Mary's Rattlers, an NCAA Division II school, in a 1 p.m. contest.
The Jaguars women's squad will have seven home and 11 away games, while the men will have eight home and 11 away games.
"I feel we should have a pretty strong schedule with several NCAA Division II schools lined up as well as UT-Brownsville which was ranked 15th in the NAIA last year on the men's side, along with William Carey, which is ranked third and Division I opponent Texas Southern, on the women's side," UHV soccer coach Adrian Rigby said. "We've mixed up the schedule well on both sides with quality opponents."
The women will also play Concordia University-Austin, Cedar Valley College, Texas Lutheran, Our Lady of the Lake, UT-Brownsville, Texas Southern and Hill College at home.
Road games for the women will include a pair of games against William Carey and UT-Brownsville in Brownsville, Schreiner University, Texas Wesleyan, Texas College, Our Lady of the Lake, Texas A&M-International, College of the Southwest, Texas Southern, LSU-Shreveport and Ouachita Baptist.
The men's home schedule will include games against Concordia-Austin, Huston-Tillotson, Texas Lutheran, Our Lady of the Lake, UT-Brownsville, Hill College, University of Mobile and St. Thomas University.
The Jaguars will go on the road to face Schreiner, Texas College, Huston-Tillotson, Our Lady of the Lake, St. Thomas, A&M-International, St. Edward's, College of the Southwest, LSU-Shreveport and Ouachita Baptist, along with St. Mary's.
